Good costume prop
Date:August 5, 2011
"If you're looking for a rugged, high quality toy for kids to play with, you'd be better off finding a Playmates phaser from 1993. This one, from Rubie's Costume Company, isn't nearly as durable. That's not to say it's a bad piece, far from it, but the Rubie's is more of a costume prop than a playable toy. I had a Playmates phaser several years ago and it had three functional buttons, a lighted emitter a belt clip on the underside and ran on 2 AA batteries. The Rubie's one has no light, one functional button, no clip and runs on 2 AAA batteries. If used for what it was intended for - a costume prop - the Rubie's is a fine piece. I just wouldn't let my 9-year-old nephew play with it. For him, I'd get a Playmates toy since those were meant to be played with."
